Basic Silversmithing

Basic Silversmithing – This beginners class primarily involves forming silver or copper wire and sheet into rings, pendants, and other items. These metals can be easily sawed, cut, bent, twisted, or soldered into patterns used in jewelry such as earrings, rings, or pendants. Classes usually involve 6 to 8 sessions of three hours long. This is one of the basics of jewelry making.

Advanced Silversmithing – Other techniques explored here include step bezels, castellated pendants, anticlastic earrings and chipped stone rings.

Basic Metalsmithing

Basic Metalsmithing – Basic Metalsmithing class teaches the fundamentals of basic techniques used by all metalsmiths.  Hands-on instructions teaches skills such as initial design, metal piercing, sawing, applying texture, forming, soldering, filing/sanding, the use of a rolling mill and drill press, applying patina to non-ferrous metals in copper and sterling silver and setting a cabochon in a pendant or ring.   Class projects include earrings, pendants, and a ring.  The classes are designed to build on skills learned with each one of the class projects.  No prior metalsmithing experience is required to take this class; this class is a prerequisite for advanced silversmithing classes.

Filigree

Filigree – Scroll work and lace work in silver. Learn to prepare the wire as well as create fine jewelry pieces.
